On July 24, Armenia’s National Academic Opera and Ballet Theater performed Gayane at the Bolshoi Theater to mark 115 years since the birth of Aram Khachaturian. Tashir Group was the general partner of the performance.
The wife of the Armenian prime minister, Anna Akopyan, Russia’s Minister of Culture Vladimir Medinsky, Armenia’s Minister of Culture Lilit Makunts, Armenia’s Ambassador to Russia Vardan Toganyan and other dignitaries were present at the event.
In his remarks before the performance, Russian Minister of Culture Vladimir Medinsky said, “The last time Gayane was performed at the Bolshoi was 57 years ago, in 1961. Its return is not just a wonderful opportunity to see the artists of Armenia’s National Academic Opera and Ballet Theater; it is also a symbol of stronger cultural ties between our countries.”
“Gayane is a story of true love, devotion and heroism of honest and hard-working people. This is what our relations have been like through the years. Aram Khachaturian’s famous Saber Dance is a symbol of our nation’s indomitable spirit, its emotion and creative energy. When we see this emotion on stage today, it should motivate us to pursue more dynamic, comprehensive and deeper ties with Russia,” Armenian Ambassador to Russia Vardan Toganyan said.
The famous ballet returned to the stage of the Bolshoi after almost 60 years to mark its author’s anniversary. The performance was given by the National Academic Opera and Ballet Theater. Gayane is one of the most famous works of the great artist. He created it in 1942. The ballet features the widely-known Saber Dance, which combines classical dancing with Armenian national character.
Tashir Group regularly sponsors Armenian cultural events in Russia. Earlier this year, Tashir was partner for Days of Armenian Culture in Russia, an exhibition by Armenian artist Martiros Saryan at the Tretyakov Gallery, modern art exhibition Extention.AM at Moscow’s Triumph gallery and other cultural events.
