Within the framework of a long-term agreement on cooperation between Tashir and the City of Yerevan signed in 2011, the group of companies will be responsible for the entire building of the new Yerevan Circus Cultural Centre in the capital of Armenia. Currently, building works have begun on the basement level on site of the original Yerevan Circus. The Group’s gross investment will amount to approximately 30 million US dollars. The construction will cover a total area of 20,000 square metres, and is due for completion by the end of 2016.

For a long time the former circus building has been in disrepair. In this regard, it was decided to demolish it and to erect a new modern six-story building with underground parking. The new multifunctional complex will be fully equipped in accordance with the latest technological developments and international standards; and will be a modern entertainment centre that is able to host both circus shows and sporting events, as well as music concerts and other entertainment.

Zara Agemian, head of communication and marketing department of Tashir Group, comments: "The construction of Yerevan Circus is another contribution of Tashir to the development of the city's infrastructure. For decades, the circus has been the favourite recreational facility for several generations of Yerevan residents; and we will make every effort to preserve and enhance its best traditions. The new circus building is designed to complement the characteristics of the urban environment and, most importantly, fit into the architectural concept of the Armenian capital. We will do our best to make the new circus building another striking symbol of modern Yerevan, a place where both children and adults will be delighted to come".

According to the project, a modern arena will appear within the new circus complex, together with a new dome, six metres taller than the original and constructed to current safety and seismic resistance requirements.

In addition to reconstruction of the building, all of the circus equipment and machinery will also be replaced allowing for expansion of the programme and hosting of some of the best international touring groups. The project will encompass entertainment zones, kids cafes, restaurants and specialty shops. The original circus building was constructed in 1962 and has seen such legendary stars of the Soviet circus as Karandash, Leonid Yengibarov, Igor Kio, Stepan Isaakyan and others perform.
